Drawing Visitors To Your Site By Increasing Your Page Ranking

by Eric Menzies

The Holy Grail of internet marketing today is the quest to rapidly increase page rank. This objective is now avidly pursued by online business owners and marketing professionals. The page rank is a number assigned by Google, to order pages when they are searched. Google keeps its algorithm highly secret, but educated guesses have been made about what it entails. Today, I will tell you that the page rank number visible to you does not convey all of the information about how your page will rank in search results.

Some people think that viewing a Google page rank can tell them the value of a web site. Actually, the Google rank can be as much as several months out of date. Many things may have changed since that number was recorded. In addition, you have to use a special type of browser to be able to see the ranking number, or go to a special web site that keeps track of these things by url. In summary, the site's page ranking is probably not a very accurate reflection of the value of a web page.

Despite these problems, page rank is the most visible aspect we have to understand how Google ranks pages in the search results. Please note I said ranks pages, not sites! Each page stands on it's own to a great extent, though there is some belief that it may be considered in the context of the reputation of the whole site. At the least the page rank of any page can be affected by the page rank of other pages on that site which link to it.

Increasing your page rank quickly isn't all that difficult. However, you do need to understand what most people consider to be the basis of page rank. In many ways, page rank is an internet popularity contest. It is generally thought to rely on the number of links to your page and the popularity of those pages. Generally, the more pages that link to your site, the better it is thought to be. The higher the rank of the page that links to you, the better the influence that page will have on your page's rank.

To increase your page rank rapidly, you will have to get as much quality content-related links to your page as possible. It's a simple as that. There are many ways of achieving it, for instance, you can post on forums and blogs, use reciprocal linking with other sites, search engine and web marketing, publish your own press releases, etc.
