Alarm Systems : Protecting Your Home Made Simple

by Edson Buchanan

In a society where crime has again taken a front foot, it is really important to protect your home and property with video security alarm systems. Although Home video security alarm systems are just of two types: wired and wireless, these do come with a variety of features, models and prices. This article discusses and explores how to choose the basic type of system keeping in mind a few considerations.

It is easiest to install a wired system in a house when the house is being built. This is because many wires need to be run through the walls. Not only is this expensive but it is also difficult to do after the house is built. Ultimately, an efficient wired system requires a lot of time and planning. The outcome, however, is a more effective hidden system than many wireless systems.

Wireless security systems do not usually require extensive modifications to your home. They also tend to require less maintenance than most wired systems, mostly because the technology is newer and thus more reliable. On the other hand, since other radio emitters can interfere with transmissions, the video feed can be erratic. The house's layout and the geometry of the cameras can also decrease the quality of the video feed, a problem that does not arise with a wired security system.

Furthermore, though the installation of a wireless system is generally less expensive and less time intensive, the initial costs of the wireless system itself is usually greater than the wired system. Although requiring less component maintenance, inadequate reception sometimes requires moving or retuning the components. On the plus side, adding more wireless cameras or other components is much simpler and cheaper, as doing so does not require the installation of more wires.

The camera's video feed can be watched in real time, recorded so that you can view it later, or both, regardless of whether it is wireless or wired. You may also use motion detection software which will immediately tell the owner if there is an intrusion. Motion detection and video feed can be sent from the base station to a secure website, making it easy for the owner to check on her property while she is away. You may also employ alarm companies to track notification of intrusion for you. If there is an intrusion, they can summon the authorities.

You need to compare the features, installation, operation, and price of the various kinds of alarm systems to determine which one best suits your needs. The basic wired and wireless type of systems each have many options available that you should explore. We hope that this article has helped clarify your decision making and given you ideas on how to proceed.

It's important to have a video security alarm system to protect your home and property, but there a lot of factors to consider when looking at all the available alarm systems: price, features, video capabilities, wired/wireless specifications, remote monitoring, etc. Wireless security systems are generally easier to install and have less maintenance issues than wired systems. Some systems have video that can be monitored live, via recording, or both. Some alarm companies offer to monitor your system and notify authorities in the case of intrusion. It's important to consider all the options of an alarm system when making your choice.
