Basement Designs - Give Your Basement a Retro Design Facelift

by Jessica P

If you are looking for great basement designs for your basement, you may want to consider going retro. You can turn your basement into a great place to hang out for the entire family... even if your basement is a dark, dingy sort of place where spiders live right now. No matter what kind of budget you have to work with, more than likely you'll be able to come up with what you need to make your basement a retro haven.

Add Some Great Lighting

You can't have a dark basement if you want to make it livable. It might work if your theme is Goth or Halloween, but we're aiming for a retro design here. To enhance a retro theme, consider adding period lights such as lava lamps. Adding a disco ball to the ceiling will give it a great touch as well. Just be sure you install lots of bright lights, because basements have a tendency to be very dark.

Go with Retro Window Coverings

Now if your basement has windows of any kind, you want to be sure to come up with retro window coverings to go along with your basement designs. There are quite a number of patterns that will complement the retro look. Obviously you can always shop around and buy your curtains, but if you know how to sew (or if you're adventurous enough to learn how), you might want to try making them yourself.

Look for Pieces to Pull it Together

So now you have the lights and the curtains, but you're not done yet. You still need a little something extra to help pull everything together. Here's where you can think about adding a retro wall mural, retro pillows, and other retro-style decorations that will really carry the theme throughout the basement.

Retro themes are a fun and eclectic way to really enhance your basement. So if you've ever been tempted to decorate with a retro theme, consider using these basement designs for your basement.
